Madrid Plataforma del Español – a new Madrid cluster

Zoom
The purpose of Madrid Plataforma del Español (Madrid Platform for Spanish) is to make the region of Madrid a leader in terms of the Spanish language and the economy and of industries related to this language. Similarly, it seeks to strengthen a brand and an image that serve as a reference in every economic activity associated to the world’s second most taught language. To achieve this, it has set up a cooperation network between firms, associations and institutions that raise the profile of the Spanish language industry and help build a more robust and competitive business fabric.
Backed by the Association of Entrepreneurs of Henares (AEDHE), Madrid Development Institute (IMADE), Alcalá de Henares Town Council, Alcalá University, the Madrid Association of Globalisation, Internationalisation, Localisation and Translation Enterprises (AMEGILT), the Audiovisual Cluster, and the Tourism Cluster, the initiative seeks to:
• Make the region of Madrid a leader in the Spanish language and in the economy and in industries related to this language.
• Lead the way in teaching Spanish as a second language across the world, compile Spanish-language teaching resources and market them through conventional, online and innovative means.
• Build up the presence of Spanish on the Internet.
• Encourage the dissemination of scientific output in Spanish.
• Increase the number of trade fairs and conferences related to Spanish.
• Be at the forefront of translation from and into Spanish throughout the world.
• Build up Spanish-language tourism, culture, business, education and science.
The drivers behind this scheme are convinced that this group will shore up industries related to Spanish, generating synergies and meeting the needs of businesses and institutions engaged in developing the Spanish language.
This cluster will be part of Madrid Network, a wide-reaching network encompassing six science and technology parks (TecnoAlcalá, TecnoLeganés, TecnoGetafe, TecnoMóstoles, Ciudad del Conocimiento and Madrid Bioparque) and eleven clusters in strategic sectors: logistics, aerospace, health, graphic arts, the car industry, renewable energy, security, ICT, tourism, finance, biotechnology and audiovisual). Madrid Network, with over four hundred groundbreaking enterprises, is the main instrument of IMADE, with which it seeks to change the current model of economic growth to one founded on innovation.
